As a mother of two small boys, I understand that for them, being clean is not a priority if you are having a good time.  I, on the other hand, hate getting dirt or grime under my fingernails.  It’s just one of those things that I am compulsive about.  But what the boys fail to realize is that dirt isn’t just about being dirty on the outside.  Dirtiness and filthiness can lead to sickness, as it brings germs and bacteria with it.  I can’t let my children stay dirty just because they don’t want to take a bath-I wouldn’t be a very good mother if I allowed that to happen.  So it is with our heavenly Father.  He doesn’t want us to walk around in our filthiness and dirtiness.  He wants us to be clean, because he knows that the dirt (sin) can bring spiritual sickness.  Just for today, I will  remember that there is cleansing for our uncleanness.  In our passage in Leviticus, we see that the leper remained unclean when he failed to recognize the state of his leprosy.  Don’t overlook or dismiss your seemingly small sins to let them fester-take it before the throne and ask for cleansing.  Even though my boys don’t necessarily like the process of being cleaned, they love the clean, refreshing feeling they have when it’s over.  Confessing our sins brings that same refreshing feeling, because 1 John 1:9 tells us that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Be cleansed today!
