Aren’t we all?  How long has this recession been going on now?  I hear stories of individuals struggling to make ends meet and stay in their homes.  Even local governments having to shut down or close specific branches due to the lack of funding.  Of course, this last week or so, we have all been avidly eye–ing the situation in Washington regarding our own federal government’s struggle to make ends meet.  How will things ever get better? Maybe the solution is just to wait.  Time.  Time seems to usually work things out.

However, there seems to be another option.  Daily I make it a point to read the day’s Proverb.  The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters which gives me one chapter per day to read every month.  I have read a Proverb a day month after month for years now.  I miss a day here and there, but that’s all right because I will read it next month.  These “Wise Sayings” compiled together may not be promises, but they are definitely helpful for living.  Today’s Proverb, chapter 3, had some very helpful verses to remind me that there is a way to BEAT THE RECESSION.

Proverbs 3:9-10
9      Honour the LORD with thy substance,
And with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10       So shall thy barns be filled with plenty,
And thy presses shall burst out with new wine.

No matter how bad things may get, Christians are to honor God with what we do have.  It may be less than we have had, but it is something.  This proverb teaches that if we will do so, our barns will be filled with plenty and our presses will burst out new wine! For me today, a guy with no barn or wine press, this still has an application.  Barns will be full…I will not go without substance.  I will have a “barn” or at least some sort of shelter to put the substance (or just me and the family)!  My plan?  I am going to “TEST GOD” with today’s Proverb and see what HE will do.
