At some point in each of our lives we all seek guidance in some area. For me, I continually seek guidance, figuring two heads are better than one. However, I once had a friend tell me that anything with more than one head is a monster! In his book Knowing God Dr. J.I. Packer gives 6 Common Pitfalls we encounter when seeking/not seeking guidance.
1. Unwillingness to Think
2. Unwillingness to Think Ahead
3. Unwillingness to Take Advice
4. Unwillingness to Suspect Oneself
5. Unwillingness to Discount Personal Magnetism
6. Unwillingness to Wait
I can say at some point I have been guilty of some if not all of these pitfalls. A few simple verses that we all know can really help us in these times.
Psalm 37:4-5 Delight thyself also in the Lord; And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the Lord; Trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
Proverb 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.
