Applications from 1 Kings

The Story: 1 Kings 4:1-19

Here in the first section of chapter 4 we see a list of Solomon’s organization of his Kingdom.  We are told who are the priests, secretaries, recorder, leaders of defense, and even those given to run Solomon’s home and servants.

The Application:

Solomon relied upon others.

Relying upon others allows those most talented in certain areas to do what they do best. You may be able to do it all yourself. But, I guarantee you will never have enough time. I guarantee someone can do it better than you. Sometimes it pays to rely upon someone else to do something. This is called delegation. Just because you can doesn’t always mean you should. Rely upon others.

Relying upon others allows you to focus on what you do best. What is it that you do best?  What do you love to do? Is this what you spend your time doing? If you are like most people you spend your time on mundane tasks that “have” to be done rather than focusing upon what you do best.

Rely upon others by delegation and focus on what you are best at doing.

The Conclusion:

Aren’t you glad Solomon built the temple? Aren’t you glad Solomon wrote the scripture we have from him? He would have never accomplished some of the great things we remember him by if he hadn’t learned how to properly finish the big job God gave him.
