Applications from 1 Kings

The Story: 1 Kings 7:1-12

We ended chapter 6 with the Temple building being finished. In the first few verses of chapter 7 we read of Solomon building his palace. His own house would include his palace, personal dwellings, and places for his wife(s). Without going into great detail about the construction, I would like to make a few applications regarding the logistics.

The Application:

Learn to Prioritize, 1 Kings 6:38b – 1 Kings 7:1

In v.38 we see that Solomon took 7 years building the Temple. In v.1 we read that it took him 13 years to build his palace.

Solomon prioritized. He made sure the things of God were taken care of first. He allowed his palace (place of government and man’s affairs) to wait while God’s Temple was built.

We should learn to prioritize. Many of you no doubt have learned this and put it into practice regularly. I am not telling you to do just like Solomon (he left his personal things to see after God’s). I am saying to follow his example in that he prioritized. You can’t do it all at once. You can’t do everything you’d wish to do.

Learn to prioritize.
