Applications from 1 Kings

The Story: 1 Kings 11:25-43

God is sending adversaries against Solomon.  Jeroboam will be the next one. God sends Ahijah the prophet to Jeroboam to instruct him that God will give him 10 tribes of the kingdom to rule over. God gives Jeroboam a similar list of “if-then” statements we read for Solomon. (v.38 cf 3:14).

Solomon dies after 40 years as king.  Rehoboam is made king in his place.  The life of the wisest King in history comes to an end.  Solomon’s end is a great illustration of 4 biblical truths. I would like to use these as our application for this passage.

The Application: (4 of 4)

Following God Is Our Duty

“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” – Ecclesiastes 12:13

All is Vanity said the wise man. I have tried it all and I know from my own experience! This I have learned…we are to Fear God and keep His commandments.  Solomon lived this and writes to even us today.  No matter what we do or don’t do here in this life…if we forget to keep a relationship with God we will lose it all.
