Applications from 1 Kings

1 Kings 18:1-16

If you read the last post, Obadiah– A good man in a bad place. If you read the last post, , please skip ahead to the application.

The Story:

This is one of the most exciting chapters in all of scripture. Soon we will read of Elijah going up against 450 prophets. In these verses Elijah meets Obadiah and then heads to meet up with Ahab. About 3 years after his first encounter with Ahab, Elijah is told by God to go back to him. God is going to send rain. Ahab and Obadiah are out in the land finding a place for animals to graze. We are told that Obadiah feared the Lord. Also, he hid 100 prophets from Jezebel in a cave.

While they are out Obadiah runs into Elijah. He explains to him that Ahab has been looking all over for him. Once Elijah promises not to leave he goes to get Ahab to meet him.

In this story there are 3 major characters: Ahab, Elijah, and Obadiah. There is an application from each.

The Application:

Ahab is on his way to meet Elijah. Elijah has had 3 years of private training by the brook, from the barrel, and with the boy. Now God will use him to overcome Baal and bring the rain. It took 3 years for God to get him ready and now He will use him mightily.

Don’t rush God. If it takes Him 3 years to prepare you for just 1 action….wait, and allow Him to prepare you.

Looking over these three characters I hope you can see a bit of yourself in each. In each case, God (or the absence of God) made the difference.
