I really hope you’ll take the time to read these four chapters today. It is so full of reminders about God’s deliverance to His people. Four times in today’s reading God told them to beware lest they forget…the Israelites had cities they had not built, houses filled that they didn’t fill, wells that they did not have to dig, and vineyards and olive trees that they didn’t plant. The Lord knew (and still knows) that when we have everything in abundance and when times are good, we tend to forget how much we still need the Lord. Wouldn’t it be pleasing to the Father if we would draw up closer to His side when our blessings ‘tank’ is full?
He also told them four times in these chapters to observe and eight times to keep (His commandments). He wanted them to continue to follow and obey what they knew to be right. Deuteronomy 5:29 combines the thought of remembering and observing into one powerful verse: “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” I think that still holds true for us today. He has done so much for us, how can we notserve Him?
